In CCMC’s Pulmonary Rehabilitation Department patients work with a team of specialists focused on helping them improve their condition and learn ways to manage it. Individuals with respiratory impairments or diseases which limit their exercise/activity tolerance, self-care or mobility are candidates for referral to the program. These can include asthma, bronchiectasis, chronic bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), emphysema and other conditions.
The CCMC pulmonary care team helps patients learn about:
- Breathing techniques
- Medications
- Nutrition
- Relaxation
- Oxygen
- Managing everyday tasks with less shortness of breath
- Staying healthy and avoiding exacerbations
Patients in the program also learn how to cope with and manage related emotions or conditions which can occur with pulmonary disorders and diseases such as fear, anxiety and depression.
Referral by a physician is required for participation. For more information on CCMC’s program call 254-879-4900.
