Scope/Impact
The RN provides direct patient care effectively and efficiently to a patient team which may include patients with varied and complex needs. The RN assumes leadership roles with progressive responsibility including but not limited to participating in or leading unit and shared governance initiatives, serving as charge nurse or preceptor to students or new employees, and possibly contributing to service line or hospital wide initiatives.
Job Functions
- Principle responsibility for the total nursing care, assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of each assigned patient.
- Responsible for providing leadership to promote effective performance and quality nursing care to create an outstanding patient experience.
- Responsible for directing and coordinating nursing care for assigned patients based on established nursing care practice standards.
- Using nursing process, plan, and provides patient/family care; evaluates patient’s response to care provided and redirects care as necessary.
- Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes.
- Provides coaching/mentoring to Med-Surg LVNs as needed.
- Provides assistance to ensure delivery of safe, quality patient care. E.g., periodically checking with other staff nurses to help prioritize care.
- Contributes to the provision of quality nursing care through performance improvement techniques that demonstrate positive outcomes.
- Gives exchange report to other health care personnel providing accurate and complete information on each patient at the change of shift, when transferring patient to another unit, and at intervals during shift.
- Recognizes, evaluates, and interviews appropriately in a life-threatening situation.
- Develops and implements nursing orders which are specific and measurable.
- Recognizes variance of diagnostic tests, vital signs, and assessments that should be reported to the physician and Charge Nurse and ensures the physician is notified in a time frame appropriate to the variance.
- Administers medications according to policy including IVs, blood, and blood components as prescribed by physicians.
- Verifies medication administration accuracy and performs the required checks on the medication administration record.
- Maintains accurate and timely records according to hospital policy and procedures.
- Completes all appropriate transfer and discharge forms.
- Abides by all legal compliance policies, procedures, and programs of CCMC.
License(s) / Certification(s) / Registration(s)
Required: Registered Nurse currently licensed in the State of Texas.
BCLS and ACLS, certification required may obtain ACLS first 6 months of employment)
