Scope/Impact
The Operating Room Technician / LVN Scrub Tech assists the surgeon during operative and invasive procedures, monitors par levels of all surgical instruments and supplies, and cleans and sterilizes all surgical instruments. Maintains constant vigilance for the maintenance of the sterile field.
Job Functions
- Prepares room in timely manner with all anticipated instruments, supplies, and equipment for each individual case
- Accurately completes operating room counts (instrument, sponges, needles); follows proper procedures in the event of incorrect count
- Carries out medical/surgical asepsis during treatments/procedures
- Follows aseptic technique when opening supplies and setting up procedures
- Arranges instruments and supplies in an orderly sterile manner. Passes instruments and supplies to the surgeon and anticipates his/her needs
- Utilizes preference cards to check with each case and updates as needed.
- Ensures availability of adequate supplies and instruments for scheduled cases and assists in opening room in a sterile fashion.
- Follows written procedures for steam sterilization, knows responsibilities, and the necessity for biological monitoring.
- Cleans and sterilizes all surgical instruments
- Cleans operating rooms and surgical areas
- Assists in pre-op or recovery, when needed, and within scope of practice.
- Maintain proper documentation of autoclave sterility logs
- Utilize non-chargeable items in a cost-effective manner
- Assists in moving patient to stretcher after case.
- Conscientiously observes and reports any breaks in sterile technique to the attending physician and RN circulator, if applicable.

Required: Two years of Surgical Tech experience
