Med/Surg Nurse Manager – RN

Job Summary

Primary responsibilities include providing administrative oversight and direction for the Medical/Surgical Unit at Comanche County Medical Center. Will provide accountability for planning, directing, leading and evaluating nursing care within the department.

Essential Functions:               

  • Promotes the mission, vision and values of the organization
  • Oversee the daily workflow, staffing, orientation, training and developing of employees within the department
  • Organize services and systems necessary for the multidisciplinary approach throughout the continuum of care.
  • Responsible for the ongoing quality/performance improvement process related to patient care.
  • Facilitates committee meetings, Med/Surg staff meetings and participates on other committees as assigned.
  • Approach all staff members in a tactful manner and treat others with respect and consideration.
  • Required to work as staff nurse, as needed, to ensure staffing coverage of department
  • Follows through on commitments; accepts responsibility for personal actions; and adapt to change
  • Promote and support a collaborative team approach in providing care for all patients with employees and ancillary services
  • Act as a liaison for the unit and provides physicians, families, and ancillary departments with direction and/or assistance as needed.
  • Support, interpret, create and recommend revision if needed of policies and procedures of the Medical/Surgical Unit
  • Monitors patient satisfaction scores
  • Monitor patient volumes, quality of care, and performance of staff to identify areas for improvement
  • Complete annual performance evaluation for employees of the unit
  • Use problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with team members
  • Maintain required competencies for self and all employees within the department
  • Responsible and accountable for Nursing care based on the nursing process – assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care in compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for in-service training and continuing education for all persons in the department.
  • Manages the use of supplies and equipment used on the unit and ensures availability required for correct operation of the unit
  • Works with CNO and Administration to set and meet budgetary goals.
  • Directs actions toward supervision of nursing care given to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, according to nursing principles.
  • Formulates schedule which provides staff available for all patient care.
  • Plans, controls, direct, and coordinate administrative duties to ensure the functioning of the Departments and staff.
  • Perform any other duties as required or assigned by supervisor.
  • Provide on call services
  • Perform duties in the Emergency Department when needed

Required:

  • Registered Nurse currently licensed by the State of Texas.
  • BCLS
  • TNCC
  • PALS
  • ACLS

Education Required

Required:  Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing.  High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Amount and Type of Experience

Required:  Five years’ Nursing experience required.

Preferred: Three to five years of nursing supervision.
