Scope/Impact
Responsible for health care services specifically identified in protocols or at the direction of the physician. Responsible for care and treatment of patients with accepted nursing and medical standards. Responsible for record keeping and assisting physicians.
Job Functions
- Accurately takes & records patient’s temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respirations, height, weight, and BMI.
- Accurately records the patient’s complaint(s) and current medications.
- Accurately records growth chart and shot records on appropriate pediatric charts.
- Escorts patients in and out of exam room.
- Prepares exam room for patient examination and cleans up afterwards.
- Observes patients for reactions to drugs and treatments or unusual conditions and immediately reports adverse reactions.
- As required, dresses wound, removes sutures, and administers prescribed procedures.
- As required, collects, accurately labels patient name, and forwards specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Arrange for and maintain a log of all referrals to outside physicians & testing centers.
- Administers specified medication with amount and accurately notes site, route, and reaction on the patients chart.
- Assist physician or physician assistant in the daily procedures scheduled in the clinic including annual exams, pap smears, etc.
- Maintains patient records and reports for appropriate documentation subject to review by the Quality Assurance process.
- Maintains proper level of supplies in all areas of patient care in the clinic.
- Returns telephone & fax messages within a timely manner and accurately documents these in patient medical record.
- Demonstrate and maintain proper level of understanding for Texas Health Steps and Vaccine for Children programs and documentation of services.
- Maintain log for all controlled substance medications as well as children’s vaccines.
- Assist in logging in and out all samples from the clinic ordered by our physicians.
- Maintain routine screenings and running of controls on equipment throughout the clinic including refrigerator temp logs, glucometer logs, etc.
- Complete annual competency review of basic nursing skills.
- Perform clinic pre-certifications with insurance carriers.
- Must be able to effectively communicate with co-workers, staff, patients and visitors.

Required: Licensed Vocational Nurse currently licensed by the State of Texas
Current CPR certification
Education Required
Required: Graduate of an accredited School for Vocational Nursing
High school diploma or equivalent
Amount and Type of Experience
Preferred: One year of Licensed Vocational Nursing experience in a health clinic is preferred.
