CCMC EARNS 5-STAR RATING IN CMS PATIENT SURVEY

Jul 2, 2020 | Archived, News

Comanche County Medical Center has earned a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) on the exemplary results of its survey of patients’ experiences. CCMC earned 5 out of 5 stars on the national 10-measure quality survey that asks patients about their experiences during a recent hospital stay. The hospital did particularly well on measures for nurse and doctor communication with patients, hospital room cleanliness, and staff efficiency in assisting patients, and, approximately 4 of 5 patients surveyed gave CCMC a rating of 9-10 on a scale of 0-10 with 10 being the highest.

A 25-bed, Critical Access Hospital (CAH), CCMC reports the patient survey responses to HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems), a publicly reported survey. The data is available online at medicare.gov under the Hospital Compare subpage. Over 4,000 hospitals participate from across the country in reporting to HCAHPS. The results and ratings help people compare hospitals in the area and nationwide.

CCMC has been driving quality improvement processes across the health system, especially over the past two years. Department managers and staff meet regularly to address quality assurance issues and engage other staff in systematically improving the way care is delivered to patients. CCMC’s full participation in HCAHPS measures is limited in part due to its smaller hospital size and average number of patients served, but as the health system continues its growth it expects to show good results across a variety of quality measures through HCAHPS and other state and national surveys.
