CCMC HOSTS APRIL 23rd MOBILE FOOD PANTRY WITH TWO

AREA CHURCHES AS PROVISIONAL DISTRIBUTION SITES

(April 16, 2020) – Comanche County Medical Center (CCMC) is hosting the Food Bank of West Central Texas (FBWCT) Mobile Food Pantry in the County, Thursday morning, April 23rd. The food pantry, normally held on the CCMC campus, will be held at two alternative sites this month. The FBWCT will deliver hundreds of boxes of food, to First Baptist Church of Comanche and then on to First Baptist Church of De Leon. Many volunteers are engaged in the effort including those from FBWCT, CCMC and church congregations. The food is distributed to the County’s residents facing hunger, and it is greatly needed during this time. Nearly 300 Comanche County families are served each month through the program. Food boxes include nutritious and shelf-stable foods, usually including canned proteins, pasta and grains, canned vegetables, and fresh produce. As food donations can vary month to month, sometimes extra foods are added to each distribution.

MOBILE FOOD PANTRY SCHEDULE – Thursday, April 23, 2020

9:30am – First Baptist Church of Comanche, 407 N. Houston St.

11:30am – First Baptist Church De Leon, 125 S. Houston St.

To protect everyone, and adhere to state and national regulations or guidance, the receiving and loading process has been modified to reduce contact and increase social distancing. Recipients are asked to follow volunteer directions during the event, wear a face covering or mask, remain in their car, leave windows up and have trunks open. Volunteers will be wearing masks and gloves; boxes will be loaded into open trunks or open truck beds. No early arrivals are allowed.

Residents receiving food boxes have completed an application, shown proof of residency in the area served, and met assistance eligibility criteria. If a resident has not yet applied, s/he needs to contact Michelle Miller, CCMC Social Worker, mmiller@comanchecmc.com, 254-879-4900 x1136 by Tuesday, April 21. Michelle should also be contacted for alternative loading information or instructions on picking up food for more than one family.

Both Comanche County Medical Center (CCMC) and Food Bank of West Central Texas are nonprofit organizations. For information about how to support the Comanche County Mobile Food Pantry, call the organizations or visit www.comanchecmc.org or www.fbwct.org.
