Scope/Impact
Under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager, obtains blood specimens, complies with lab procedures, help with the patients in Out Patient area, and perform clerical and housekeeping duties. OSHA Blood borne Pathogens Class I
Job Functions
- Assists technologists with patients and obtains blood/urine specimens from patients.
- Complies with requests for lab testing as ordered by physicians.
- Collects and processes specimens in compliance with established laboratory procedures.
- Identifies the patient and labels specimens according to policies and procedures.
- Enters patient information and orders patient tests into computer system.
- Assists patient with clothing and personal needs when necessary.
- Assists patients to bathroom to assure safety when necessary.
- Maintains work area, supplies, and performs clerical duties.
- Cleans work area at the end of shift.
- Maintains a level of stock for operation (venipuncture supplies, clerical supplies, etc…)
- Files and retrieves patient records.
- Assists with copying patient records and faxing results to go to other physicians outside of our clinic/hospital.
- Checks requests for all the pertinent patient information and, if needed, seeks additional information from nursing personnel or clinic staff.
- Complies with policies and procedures of infection control.
- Reports any problems Laboratory Manager immediately
- Maintains logs and other documentation of the Reference Laboratory.
- Provides service direct to patients while maintaining a positive patient atmosphere.
- Interacts with the Medical Staff members and other departments on a continuous basis.
- Follows procedures for using precautions when involved in direct patient contact or when handling potentially infectious materials.
