The Surgical RN provides direct patient care and addresses the psychosocial, physical, and general aspects of care related to the surgical environment.
Job Functions
- Maintains the dignity, modesty, and privacy of the patient and protects the confidentiality of patient information.
- Anticipates special needs, equipment and supplies for the patient relative to an accurate physical assessment of the patient.
- Maintains a safe environment for patients and visitors, including timely and effective communication with family members.
- Assists in cleaning and organizing all clinical areas between cases, as necessary.
- Evaluates patient’s progress toward desired outcomes, and makes appropriate revisions and interventions as necessary
- Performs systematic and continuous assessment of the patient and assures that all data are collected, documented, and communicated.
- Maintains accurate records of controlled substances.
- Recognizes the need and obtains assistance for the initiation of emergency measures.
- Reviews and accurately documents physicians’ orders.
- Reports and documents appropriate incident forms to patients, visitors, and employees.
- Test equipment functions and reports malfunctions.
- Reviews and completes medical records charts as directed by the policy and procedure of the hospital.
- Utilizes non-chargeable items in a cost-effective manner.
- Demonstrates knowledge regarding patient safety, hazardous materials, universal precautions, and infection control.
- Identifies and anticipates problems and is actively involved in seeking interventions and solutions.
- Participates in problem solving across departmental boundaries within established protocols to meet patient needs.
- The nurse will be expected to document all patient care in the EMR. Chart Checks will be done every 24 hours, patient assessments every 24 hours , patient safety rounds every two hours, care plans updated daily, meals, vitals, I&O, and all other necessary documentation is to be documented each shift, correctly in the EMR.

Required: RN, BLS, ACLS,
Preferred: PALS
Education Required
Required: Graduate of an accredited School of Professional Nursing
High school diploma or equivalent
Preferred: BSN preferred
Amount and Type of Experience

Preferred: Two years’ experience in the OR preferred
