Scope/Impact
The clerk is responsible for registering and pre-admitting outpatients. The clerk interviews and gathers complete and accurate data to facilitate the admission/registration process and obtains appropriate signatures; verifies workers’ compensation benefits. The clerk registers patients, interprets and explains hospital regulations, policies, and services to patients and/or guests. The clerk will collect and receipt all monies accordingly and reconcile petty cash daily.
Job Functions

- Interviews patients to obtain essential data for admissions registration.
- Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the different admissions and registration procedures.
- Witnesses and obtains patients signatures on all forms required for registration according to CCMC, State, and Federal regulations.
- Handles escalated department inquiries.
- Can demonstrate the knowledge of different functions in department.
- Provides continuing feedback to supervisor or designee.
- Demonstrates cooperation, flexibility, and understanding under pressure.
- The job duties are performed in a courteous, efficient, professional manner.
- Can identify all forms and programs and demonstrate proper applications as related to the department.
- Understands and can interpret hospital regulation, policies, and services to patients.
- Provides continuing feedback to Revenue Cycle Director or designee.
- Addresses and resolves problems from assigned departments.
- Assists Revenue Cycle Director in setting goals and objectives for job functions.
- Demonstrates a full knowledge of obtaining pre-certs and verification of benefits for patients, both commercial and government.
- Demonstrates cross-training within the department to effectively handle any scheduling emergency that may arise.
- Adheres to policy on receiving, issuing receipts, and recording of all monies.
- Reconciles the petty cash drawer.
- Documents and records patient information to meet current standards and policies.
- Completes all other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education Required
Required: High school diploma or equivalent
Amount and Type of Experience
Admission/registration experience or previous physician’s office experience preferred.
